Powerful internet…

Posted by gerardo in April 15th 2008

Wonderful and powerful internet! I’m here in the shop painting some tiles with Umbrian landscapes.
A nice couple from Australia came and bought two beautiful bowls.  At the same time a customer from our online-chat (plugoo) said - I just bought one of your products in New York, and now I’m browsing your catalog… - This is amazing!

Fake “hand painted” Deruta ceramics…

Posted by gerardo in April 7th 2008

Few stores in the States are selling now original Deruta pieces mixed with fakes.

Very often the price is low, but this is not always true.

To paint a dinner plate we take about 80/90 minutes (Only the painting cost to us $36) so, the same plate cannot be sold for less that $90/$100 by our retailers in the USA.
So you know that for less than, let me say $50, those plates are FAKE or very bad quality.

To recognize a stamped plate you need to carefully compare 2 pieces and see if they are identical.
These companies are using the name of DERUTA to sell different products, made in different places like Portugal or China.

What can we do to protect our name?

There are laws, and we are making steps to oblige these companies to sign their products properly as ‘made by stamp’, but is not so easy, especially if they are locate in different countries.
And finally: are they safe?

If you are unsure about the products you’re going to buy, ask the seller about the origin of the products. Contact the producer for informations. They must be able to give you info’s via email.

Updating the website.

Posted by gerardo in April 6th 2008

I’m in the shop doing some work on the website. There are still many items not published and it’s time to take some pictures. I’ts a boring job, I do prefer to paint, but …. just stop to write and do it!

Nice lunch today….

Posted by gerardo in April 6th 2008

I Just had a nice lunch with new customers here in Deruta at Melody Hotel Restaurant. They are from Minnesota and are enjoying their time here in Italy. We had beautiful maltagliati all’abruzzese and Lungarotti Rubesco wine.
We spent 2 hours talking about all but business…. we did, later in our shop.
